Short introduction of partner, why do they participate in NH3CRAFT and why is NH3CRAFT important for UOS?

The University of Strathclyde (UoS) is a Public Research University located in Glasgow, Scotland. Founded in 1796 as the Andersonian Institute, it is Glasgow’s second-oldest university, having received its royal charter in 1964 as the first technological university in the United Kingdom.

In the UOS, Naval Architecture and Ocean and Marine engineering (NAOME) department has tried to utilise its strengths and novelty to maximise impact and help the ocean and maritime communities by supporting industry in a useful and innovative way. In particular, the society to address global challenges such as decarbonisation and digitalisation in a circular economy environment is an area of greatest interest to our department.

The NH3CRAFT project, which has the same goal as the UOS focusing on the safety of the shipping industry and environmental research, presents a solution that uses ammonia as a ship fuel to solve the GHG emissions that arise in the shipping industry. Through this project, we aim to contribute to reducing the environmental footprints of ships by adopting regulations that can use NH3 fuel safely and eco-friendly in ships and supporting extensive knowledge and research activities to produce fuel tanks.
