Short introduction of partner, why do they participate in NH3CRAFT and why is NH3CRAFT important for TUD?

The Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) is a research institution of Technische Universität Dresden’s (TUD) Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering and the “Friedrich List” Faculty of Transportation and Traffic Sciences.

At the Institute Of Lightweight Engineering And Polymer Technology (ILK) of the Technische Universität Dresden, comprehensive research is performed in the field of load-adapted lightweight structures. For this, a comprehensive approach is pursued with respect to both materials and products throughout the total engineering chain – material, design, simulation, manufacturing, component, quality assurance. In the development of new concepts, processes and products, researchers at ILK consider the entire development chain: material – construction – simulation – production – prototype testing – quality assurance – costs.

NH3CRAFT project will address the issue of decarbonisation of the maritime sector by usage of ammonia instead of legacy fossil fuels. Since Technische Universität Dresden has been always promoting resource efficiency with a strong commitment to energy saving, emissions reductions and optimization of fuel consumption, the goals of project NH3CRAFT are aligned towards TUD’s efforts and long-term goals. The Project and Consortium will benefit from TUD’s extensive knowledge and research activities about lightweight and high-performance fibre composite structures to construct fuel tanks for safe and efficient storage of Ammonia.
