Deliverable D7.1 – Regulatory gaps and risk assessment models

The concept and development of ammonia being used as a fuel in the shipping industry are still in the embryonic stage which requires a detailed investigation of its applicability in terms of its safety and risk during the design and operational phases of a ship’s lifecycle. Having said that, this report in detail investigates the different characteristics and properties of ammonia and identifies three major hazards namely toxicity, chemical corrosion, fire & explosion.
