The Towards Zero Emissions Synergies Workshop, held on December 10th, 2024, at IST Lisbon, brought together innovators from across the maritime sector to discuss strategies for achieving zero-emission shipping. Among the key highlights was NH3CRAFT’s groundbreaking work in ammonia fuel storage, presented by Mr. Alexandros Giannakis of HYDRUS Engineering SA.
Driving Innovation with NH3CRAFT
As a leader in ammonia-based solutions, NH3CRAFT focuses on the safe and efficient storage of ammonia aboard ships, a critical component of future maritime decarbonization. The presentation showcased the project’s goals, partner contributions, and recent outputs as NH3CRAFT progresses toward its May 2025 completion. The audience gained valuable insights into ammonia’s potential to power zero-emission vessels.
Collaborative Outcomes
NH3CRAFT’s contributions sparked dialogue with other pioneering initiatives like LH2CRAFT, GAMMA, and SAFeCRAFT. Discussions revolved around shared goals of sustainability and safety, emphasizing quantitative risk assessments, lifecycle analyses, and the role of ammonia in alternative fuel strategies. This collaboration reinforces NH3CRAFT’s position as a key player in sustainable shipping innovation.
Synergies for a Zero-Emission Future
The workshop highlighted ammonia’s strategic importance in the maritime fuel mix. NH3CRAFT’s integration into broader decarbonization efforts aligns with industry priorities such as electrification, alternative fuels, and autonomous shipping technologies. Its role in fostering partnerships with complementary projects underscores the value of a unified approach to zero-emission goals.
Looking Ahead
The workshop’s success underscored NH3CRAFT’s importance in fostering collaboration and driving advancements in maritime sustainability.
