NH3CRAFT is a strategic project for RINA CONSULTING because it allows us to gather experience and collaborate in the reduction of total annual greenhouse gas emissions from international maritime transport and in the reduction of CO2 emissions. Moreover, RINA-C will acquire experience of the complete normative picture for the decarbonisation of waterways transport. In particular, RINA-C will undertake to analyze the risks of the proposed solutions, will contribute to the safety control of the storage system of the tank; RINA-C will play an essential role in the assessment of potential risks associated with the use of ammonia as a marine fuel and will help develop guidelines for safety assessment, improving professional and HSE aspects. Thanks to the collaboration with the partners, RINA-C will develop procedures for the correct operation and maintenance of the proposed tank and fuel supply systems, alternative bunkering solutions, and procedures. Once the objectives of the project have been achieved, having studied the use of ammonia for the production on board of hydrogen or directly as fuel can be exploited by RINA-C as a consulting service.
