The purpose of this task is to develop a detailed engineering design (equivalent to FEED) for the auxiliary related systems (HDMSS) of the demonstrator vessel for the use of ammonia as fuel in a safe and technically feasible manner. The auxiliary systems design has been reviewed and revised based on the findings of the three safety workshops (HAZID, HZAOP and FMEA), which have been an integral part of the whole NH3CRAFT project. All key engineering aspects of the auxiliaries’ systems detailed design are summarized below:
- Complete and thorough process flow diagram, operation modes and system schematic production
- Detailed engineering calculations including pipe thickness calculations, relevant system components calculation and specifications, material evaluation and selection
- Simulation model creation for the optimization of the performance of the system
- Production of several sub-component drawings of the HDMSS (fuel supply/recirculation system, inerting system, ammonia catch system, ammonia bilge system, ventilation system, emergency shutdown system etc.)
The final list of documents/drawings of the engineering design process has been submitted, reviewed and approved by ABS Classification Society. This extensive examination of the documents eventually leads to the Design review report (deliverable D4.3) and finally will be part of the statement of the maturity level of this New Technology Qualification (NTQ issuance in deliverable D9.1).
