Evaluating the Feasibility of Ammonia and Hydrogen By-Products as Fuel Sources for Fuel Cells: Task 8.4

This task will explore alternative approaches, such as using ammonia directly as a fuel in fuel cells or employing cracking technology to produce hydrogen from ammonia to power fuel cells. The technological challenges of these alternatives will be identified and analysed. The energy balance will be determined, and a brief techno economic assessment will be performed. Safety and risk input will be sourced from T7.3 and T7.4, while the economic models developed in WP10 will be used for the techno-economic evaluation of the proposed concepts. The final output of the task will be a report including detailed description of the characteristics of the proposed solutions that facilitate modularity and scalability, as well as their application in ships of various types and sizes.
