EKME S.A. is a leading contractor specializing in design, construction, services, and maintenance within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, and Power sectors more broadly, the Energy industry with over 50 years of experience. Since the early 1970s, EKME has closely followed the development of the Greek industrial landscape, particularly in high-tech areas such as refineries, petrochemical and fertilizer plants, power generation units, and fuel storage and distribution facilities.
Through long-term collaborations with internationally recognized EPC contractors, EKME has gained extensive technical expertise, particularly in the design, construction and maintenance of industrial plants that introduced advanced production technologies to Greece. This foundation allowed the company, from the early 1980s onward, to improve its staff proficiency, expand its machinery capabilities, and evolve its organizational structure to successfully manage complex industrial projects and fabricate high-specification process equipment.

Meet the Experts Driving NH3CRAFT Forward
Thomas Stamos, Project Manager.

Thomas is a Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in the design, fabrication, and project management of complex equipment for production plants within the Oil & Gas, Energy, and Chemical sectors. His expertise spans both workshop fabrication and on-site erection of industrial equipment.
Within the NH3CRAFT project, Thomas serves as the Project Manager, overseeing material selection, fabrication processes, and coordinating all related tasks. He is also responsible for managing the project timeline and production schedule across all phases, while providing technical guidance on the mechanical design of the vessels.
Thomas has taken a leading role in the development of project deliverables, having led D3.1 and D6.2, contributed to the writing of D3.2, and served as editor for D6.1, D6.3, D8.1, and D8.3.
Theodoros Kallinos, Quality Assurance and Quality Control Manager.

Theodoros serves as both the Quality Manager and Welding Coordinator at EKME, overseeing the company’s compliance with normative standards, legislative requirements, and applicable codes across all projects. He plays a key role in maintaining integrity, smooth operation and continuous improvement of EKME’s welding operations.
As part of the NH3CRAFT project, Theodoros has developed the welding and testing procedures for the steel tanks, as documented in Deliverable D3.2. Together with his team, he coordinates and supervises the welding activities, ensuring the successful execution and monitoring of testing processes during the fabrication of the steel tanks under Task 6.2.
Evi Tokmaki. Drafting Department Supervisor.

Evi leads the Technical Office at EKME, where she coordinates the design team and oversees all drafting and modeling activities. With extensive experience in 3D modeling, drafting, and the preparation of fabrication and construction drawings, she has contributed to a wide range of projects involving both atmospheric and pressure equipment.
Within the NH3CRAFT project, Evi and her team are responsible for producing the fabrication drawings for the steel tanks manufactured under Task 6.2, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
Iordanis Dedonakis, Engineering Design Department.

Iordanis is a Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in designing and drafting pressure vessels, particularly for refinery equipment projects at EKME.
Within the NH3CRAFT project, Iordanis serves as the Design Engineer for the steel tanks, while also contributing to the creation of various in-house drawings for production purposes. Additionally, he supportes the engineering design of the vessels for the Desktop Studies and Modularity & Scalability tasks, contributing to the deliverables in Work Packages WP3 (D3.1 to D3.4) and WP8 (D8.3).
Asterios Doumpiotis, Production Manager.

Asterios is a Mechanical and Welding Engineer with extensive experience in production and quality control procedures.
In the NH3CRAFT project, Asterios is responsible for coordinating the production schedule, ensuring that the appropriate time slots, production resources, and manpower are allocated for the construction of the steel tanks under Task 6.2, as well as overseeing the demonstration held at EKME’s premises under Task 6.3.
Dimitrios Petkidis, Procurement Manager.

Dimitrios has over ten years of experience as a strategic buyer at EKME, with extensive knowledge of the European market.
In the NH3CRAFT project, Dimitrios is responsible for issuing purchase orders to EKME’s suppliers, ensuring that material specifications defined by the engineering design and quality assessments are accurately communicated and adhered to.
Giorgos Apostolidis. Foreman.

Giorgos has over 10 years of experience at EKME, working on challenging projects related to pressure tanks.
As part of NH3CRAFT project, Giorgos provides valuable advice and, in collaboration with the technical office, ensures that potential technical issues are avoided during the final assembly process. He is also responsible for overseeing the handling of materials—from their arrival and processing to nesting, in coordination with the drafting team. Additionally, Giorgos manages the internal logistics for heat treatment and final welding activities, coordinating with the assembly team for Task 6.2.
How EKME SA is Powering NH3CRAFT’s Success
[WP2 Demonstration Implementation plan and evaluation criteria] – EKME has contributed to Task 2.3 Concept design of the Demonstrator by providing information related with the steel tanks fabrication.
[WP3 Engineering Design Process for the Tank Storage Systems] – EKME has contributed to the following tasks:
Task 3.1 Concept Engineering Design Process for the Demonstrator hull integrated Tank Storage Systems. EKME led this task and provided outputs and data for design conditions, steel tank dimensions, and recommendations for candidate materials and fabrication methods.Preliminary data sheets issued in this task.
Task 3.2. Basic & Detailed Engineering Design Process for the Demonstrator hull integrated Tank Storage Systems. EKME performed the detailed design of the steel tanks for the Demonstrator in compliance with relevant codes. The team also managed welding engineering for the steel tanks, issuing welding procedures and the corresponding qualification records. Additionally, EKME prepared the Inspection and Test Plan for the steel tanks.
Task 3.3. Design of tank storage systems for the desktop studies. EKME performed the detailed design of the steel tanks for the desktop studies in accordance with applicable codes.
Task 3.4. Modularity & Scalability Concept Development. EKME performed the detailed design of steel tanks used in various scenarios within this task, in accordance with applicable codes.
[WP6 Assembly, Installation and Functionality Testing of System] – EKME has contributed to the following tasks:
Task 6.2 Tank Manufacturing, Auxiliaries Provision & Retrofit Works.
EKME handled material procurement, fabrication, and inspection of the steel tanks in accordance with the design developed in Task 3.2. Nearly all EKME’s facilities in Thessaloniki were utilized for the completion of the tanks.
Task 6.3 Demonstration and testing.
EKME provided its premises in Thessaloniki for the demonstration and testing of the Ammonia Tankage System. The company prepared the demonstration area, allocated working spaces for other partners, contributed to the assembly of the tankage system, participated in the demonstration and testing processes, and oversaw the disassembly of the unit.
[WP7 Safety & Risk Assessment] EKME participated in the quantitative and qualitative risk assessment performed by TWI and UoS in the form of workshop (HAZID/HAZOP).
[WP8 Assessment of Operational and Modularity Characteristics] – EKME contributed to Task 8.3: Modular and Scalability Characteristics by performing the design of the steel tanks in accordance with relevant codes, which were examined as case studies in this task.
[WP11 Dissemination, Exploitation and communication] EKME has contributed in in the dissemination and communication material providing posts and informative material through the communication platforms.
