Concept Engineering Design Process for the Demonstrator Auxiliary Systems – final outputs

The concept engineering design of the auxiliary systems was based on the demonstrator’s concept fuel containment system installation arrangement layout, which was updated following the HAZID workshop’s findings for the concept engineering process described in deliverable D2.3. All actions were mainly related to health, safety and environmental aspects, mitigating to acceptable levels the risk control measures of the highly toxic Ammonia. The concept engineering process was developed, generating the Ammonia fuel handling process flow diagram and the conceptual system schematics. The provisional single line process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) have been created along with the relevant concept safety and electrical systems. An assessment of the port bunkering facilities along with the current bunkering methods and procedures has been performed, which will lead to the operational specifications of the detailed design. Design aspects of the concept engineering process included have been preliminarily assessed by the Classification Societies, in terms of applicability of general engineering principles.
