Assessment of Main Engine Interface

Assessment of main engine interface” of the project NH3CRAFT according to task 4.3, will focus on the latest developments and trends on the interface of ammonia fuelled engine with the supporting auxiliary machinery and components. These technological updates, accompanied by the outcomes of Tasks 4.1 and 4.2 will aid in defining the relevant design parameters to be included in the design process. Currently, ammonia fueled engines operate only in dual fuel mode, incorporating processes and components of the gas fueled engines (LNG and Methanol). The main engine interface with the auxiliary systems will be reviewed on three stages: fuel transfer components (heat exchangers, recirculation units, fuel flow control valves), cylinder injection valves and exhaust gas after-treatment solutions (selective catalytic reactor), since NOx emissions are increased due to the chemical composition of ammonia (NH3).
